Underground

This four fellows from Ghent, Belgium have been quiet unnoticed so far. For no reason, of course. But a few gigs (for example as support of Belgium friends Soulwax) and dragging releases outside Belgium have yet not been enough. First chance for insiders to notice Das Pop has been their debut release of "I Love" in 2000 or at least the release of the second album "The Human Thing" in 2004. Although they are trying to get rid of the label Belgium Brit-Pop, they can't deny their influences. Even their new single "Underground", which has been published on the 4th of August is quiet poppy and British again. But they have totally chosen the right direction. "Underground" is one of the most catchy songs right now and it becomes an amazing dancefloor filler through Van She's Club Mix and Busy P's Remix, who must have been influenced by Italian Hip-Hop bangers Crookers. Das Pop will finally get their well-deserved attention and hopefully not just through the remixes. I have added the song "Fool For Love", which will also appear on "Underground's" CD version, and SebastiAn's great remix of it.

"Music to have Asthma to"

Four young good-looking British boys from Castle Donington, Nottingham have totally brought trash into our dearly-loved Indie. Late Of The Pier dropped their first single "Bathroom Gurgle" in September 2007, which took people's breath away. While there were still people struggling for breath, the convinced ones started dancing to "The Bears Are Coming" in March this year and on the 4th of August they released their current single "Heartbeat". No one else than DJ and producer Erol Alkan is responsible for this specific sound. Late Of The Pier combine epic synths, heavy guitars and stormy vocals to a very special trashy and intergalactical sound. A friend of mine told me the following at a Late Of The Pier concert: "I don't know how to dance. There are always these sudden breakes. First there is this slow future-pop sound with silent tones and suddenly the keyboard and the drums start and you can't keep your feet still." Their album "Fantasy Black Channel" will be published on the 11th of August and Erol Alkan will be honoured again for a great job, after producing the Mystery Jets' current album "21". The single "Heartbeat" shows that they have made great impression on other artists, because next to others you will find a Zongamin and a Hot Chip Remix on the 12" version.

And here I got two clips from them live at MELT! 2008, which just give an impression of how powerful and amazing these guys are.
